‘YOUNG PUP’ HOPES FOR FIRST BEST FRIEND THIS INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY

You’ve heard of puppy love, well one young rescue dog is hoping that someone will want to be his first ever best friend this International Dog Day (26 August), after being in the care of Battersea for 170 days.

One-year-old Bull Mastiff, Bruce, came into Battersea’s Brands Hatch centre in March after being found abandoned as a stray, but so far he has struggled to find a home due to his overexcitable and puppy-like nature; which is no mean feat given his already impressive size.

A Battersea Brands Hatch spokesperson said: “Bruce came to Battersea as a stray, so it’s impossible to say what had happened to him before he found his way to us. However, judging from how excitable and nervous he can be in new situations, it’s clear to see that he hasn’t been shown how to enjoy being a part of a family unit and needs someone to show him a little love.”

“Bruce is a big baby and thinks that he’s a small puppy which can be difficult for owners to handle. For this reason, Bruce is looking for sympathetic and patient owners experienced with large breeds who will help him grow to his full potential to become the good, polite boy that he is capable of becoming.”

Bruce is currently one of the charity’s longest staying residents and has been in kennels five times longer than the average stay (34 days).

The spokesperson continues: “International Dog Day is all about celebrating man’s best friend, and now Bruce is hoping to find a new best friend of his very own. His best friend will need to be patient and continue all of the good training that he’s learnt so far to help Bruce navigate new situations which he can find overwhelming. Most importantly, Bruce’s future best friend will need to show him the love that he truly deserves.”

Bruce is looking to live in a quiet location with no other dogs or cats in the house. He’s a big ball of energy so will need his very own garden to play with his favourite rope toy at his leisure.

If you’re interested in rehoming Bruce, please call the Brands Hatch team on 01474 875102 or email bbh.rehomers@battersea.org.uk.
